Psychopharmacology
Research Unit
The psychopharmacology researches in Gulhane Military Medical
Academy (GMMA) has begun in Medical Pharmacology Department in 1984. The researches had been carried on in a
laboratory in the basement of the main hospital building till 1996. "Psychopharmacology Research Unit" has been established in GMMA Research Building in 27,03,1997 by the order of
Commandership of GMMA (Order number: 0530-39-97-747) as a unit of Medical Pharmacology Department.
In this unit to make original researches for finding solutions on the recent problems in
Neuropsychopharmacology and developing new medicines that can be applied to clinical
usage has been aimed.
Experimental researches on:

dependence

epilepsy
and seizures

anxiety and depression

neurodegenerative illnesses, Alzheimer's
disease and dementia.

the quantification of neurotransmitters
by HPLC and microdialysis

and chronic pain
For Routine Purposes,

pharmacology course (6 practice hours)

GMMA Health Sciences Institute master's and doctorate
courses (practice for thesis)

Postgraduate courses
(theory and practice) for Experimental Psychology Department of University of Hacettepe have been given.
Scientific
Production:
Up to now
63 articles have been published in journals
indexed by SCI (62 of them are research articles and one of them is a review article) .
The
contribution of this unit to total scientific production of GMMA is approximately
%11.

There are two
laboratories in Psychopharmacology Research Unit. Those laboratories have all the qualifications for behavioral experimental studies on
laboratory animals.
The heat and moisture are kept in limits (22±3°C and %60±5). 12 hours darkness and 12 hours light cycle
procedure has been fallowed. In all the experiments performed in this unit the rules of Helsinki
Declaration and The Guide for Usage and Care of Laboratory Animals published by American National
Institute of Health (NIH) have been strictly fallowed. Swiss-Webster mice and Wistar Rats have been used in experiments.
