Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit was commisioned on December 21, 2001. Our unit consist of two monoplace chamber and we plan to buy a multiplace chamber.

There are 4 doctors and 3 nurses working at the unit.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is a therapy which is applied %100 oxygen by a mask or a hood in a closed chamber, above 1 atmosphere (1ATA= 760 mmHg) pressure.

The  Indications of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

Acute air or gas embolism

Decompression sickness

Carbonmonoxide poisoning, acute smoke inhalation, cyanide poisoning

Clostridial myonecrosis (Gas gangrene)

Diabetic wounds, venous stasis ulcerations, decubitis ulcers, ulcers which depend on arterial insufficiency

Excessive blood loss

Necrotising infections of soft tissue (subcutaneous, fascia, muscle)

Chronic refractory osteomyelitis

Radiation necrosis: Soft tissue radiation necrosis and  osteoradionecrosis

Skin flaps and grafts with problem

Thermal burns

Diabetic foot (Charcot joint)

GENERAL MISSIONS

Activities about the divers’ health.

Periodic controls of the divers and detecting their adaptation capacity to subaquatic conditions.

Recording the divers’ health archieves.

Minimizing the  subaquatic illnesses and  accidents by informing and training the subaquatic personnel.

Applying the emergency treatment immediately to the survivor who had a  subaquatic accident.

Acute recompression therapies and the treatment - rehabilitation of sequelae due to subaquatic accidents.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

Supporting the  studies about the subaquatic physiology, pathology, ecology and biology and cooperate  the other universities and institutions;

Carrying out scientific studies and making publications;

Training the undersea and hyperbaric medicine specialists.
